The Orthodox education in “Konstantin Velichkov” Comprehensive School started in 1999. Then, for the first time, the pupils and the teachers began to go into the churches round the village of Patalenitza. Alexandar Arnaudov – a great historian and a fascinating person, led them. The painter Vassil Petrov taught the children to work skillfully with aquarelle paints when they depicted the temples and made icons. Then the joint work between Father Stefan Yordanov and “The Virgin Mary’s Canopy” Foundation in Sofia started. This foundation supported several of our projects.
We created a team of followers. Father Stefan has led the religious school for four years. Slava Russeva has worked as a children choir for Church-Slavonic chant conductor for two years. This choir revealed something amazing – the children sing some difficult |
Church-Slavonic chant with great desire, under an appropriate guidance. The teachers from the primary school take an active part, too. Angel Tashkov works with the little icon painters. Dimka Bojkova, supported by Iuliana Peeva, Blagovesta Viraneva and Latinka Valchiva, runs the children’s drama group.

This team of followers has realized many various activities. All the children from the primary school and a part of the bigger pupils were trained in the Religious School. And not only this. Father Stefan took good care of his alumni. He found sponsors for some children’s medical treatment and for the financial support of some pupils. The children Choir for Church-Slavonic Chant performed several successful concerts.

in the villages of Patalenitza and Debrashtitza. The children take part in some programmesconnected to the great Christian Holidays – St Nicola's day, Christmas, Annunciation's day, Flower's day, Easter, St George's day. They prepare performances with biblical plots. They represent them to the parents at school and the churches of Patalenitza and Debrashtitza. The work of the Drama School did not stay unnoticed. "Nova" Television showed the film "The Annunciation in Patalenitza" in its programme "Iconostasis". "BTV" Television showed a descriptive report about the children in its programmes "BTV Reporters" and "In the Ten".
School and Church are the guards of spiritual heritage of our nation. It is our responsibility to restore the real idols, which have to be a model for our coming generation. We must teach our children in the Ten Commandments and not to turn away from their God. Then we might become more kind-hearted…
