Parents' participation in the education

Many activities in the school were held with the active participation of the parents. There was no a School board of trustees and its necessity in every way is indisputable. In 2000 we joined "Parents’ participation in education" Program in "Catholic Relief Services" Foundation (GRS) in Sofia. With their help we registered the board of trustees.
At the beginning of July 2000 the new board of trustees won in GRS project "Children professional centre" Its realization began immediately. Because of a little mistrust and the big parents’ engagement (the tobacco campaign is in summer), the creation of the studies were difficult. What is more, a failure was foretold. However, the extreme tenacity
of Angel Nalbantsky – The chairman of the board of trustees and Nikola Kolev – the principal of the school, helped with the successful completion of the project. They managed to organize the parents’ starting with the cleaning of the

premises cleaning till its completion. The wonderful study in cooking was opened in autumn. The school corridors housed the guestswith great difficulty. Some friends from the foundations, which our school works with, came. The vice president of Bulgarian Republic – Todor Kavaldjiev and colleagues from other schools came, too.
The study started to work immediately. Masters in confectionery showed to the children their recipes. The holiday cakes are prepared in this study. The pupils from V to VIII class do their lessons in cooking in this comfortable and beautiful study.

At the beginning of 2003, the school board of trustees started its work on the next project "Youth centre for education and information" The finances were given by the "Open society" Foundation – Sofia, "Civil initiatives in the Bulgarian village" Program.
The project offers a model for sterling communication and social engagement of the young people from Patalenitza and Debrashtitza by:
-Using the opportunities of the information technology;
-Creating youth television studio;
-Organizing of special training in communication problems, anti drug and sexual education..
This could be achieved by creating the
Centre for education and information
in "K. Velichkov" Primary school in Patalenitza. Thanks to the finances from the project we installed wireless Internet. We bought a scanner. The |

number of the computers increased and we created a computer net. Every teacher did a course in Computer literacy.
ÒThese conditions let us start the regular computer education for all of the pupils from I to VIII class.
Our projects show – how can parents, jointly with teachers, really help their children to live and work in a modern school environment.
